Who Are We?
The Washington Association of Building Officials (WABO) is a nonprofit, professional community dedicated to one essential goal: ensuring the safety, integrity, and resilience of the built environment across Washington State.
Since its founding in 1977, WABO has brought together the people responsible for shaping our communities—from building officials and inspectors to plans examiners, engineers, architects, and industry partners—all working toward a shared standard of excellence.
What We Do
At its core, WABO exists to support the professionals who safeguard the places we live, work, and gather. We do this by:
Advancing building codes and standards
Actively participating in code development at the state, national, and international levels to ensure Washington remains at the forefront of safety and innovation.
Supporting code enforcement professionals
Providing resources, tools, legislative monitoring and peer networks that empower local jurisdictions to implement and administer codes effectively.
Delivering education and training
Through seminars, certifications, and our Annual Education Institute, we help professionals stay current in an ever-evolving industry.
Strengthening professional standards
From accreditation programs to specialized certifications, WABO promotes consistency, competency, and accountability across the field.
