Role of the Executive Director
The Executive Director of the Washington Association of Building Officials (WABO) provides day-to-day leadership, administrative oversight, and organizational continuity for the association. Working in partnership with the Executive Board, officers, committee chairs, members, and staff, the Executive Director helps ensure that WABO’s programs, services, meetings, communications, and operations are carried out effectively and in alignment with the association’s mission.
A central responsibility of the role is managing the practical work that keeps WABO functioning as a statewide professional association. This includes supporting board and committee activities, coordinating business meetings and events, maintaining member services, overseeing communications, assisting with records and agendas, and helping implement decisions made by WABO leadership.
The Executive Director also serves as a key point of coordination between WABO and its members, partner organizations, state agencies, industry stakeholders, and the public. By facilitating communication and follow-through, the role helps connect members with resources, training, legislative information, technical support, and opportunities to participate in association programs and initiatives.
Through this work, the Executive Director helps translate WABO’s strategic direction into consistent action. The role strengthens organizational stability, supports effective governance, promotes member engagement, and ensures that WABO remains a reliable resource for building officials and code professionals serving communities throughout Washington State.
