Role of the Past President

Guiding WABO forward through leadership, service, and collaboration.

The Past Presidents of the Washington Association of Building Officials (WABO) provide continuity, historical perspective, and experienced guidance to the association’s leadership. Having previously served as WABO President, they bring institutional knowledge of the organization’s priorities, governance, member needs, and long-standing relationships with state, regional, and national code development partners.

In this role, Past Presidents serve as advisors to the Executive Board and current officers, helping support informed decision-making and a smooth transition of leadership from year to year. They may provide guidance on association procedures, strategic initiatives, committee work, legislative priorities, and member services, while helping ensure that current efforts remain aligned with WABO’s mission and objectives.

Past Presidents also play an important mentorship role within WABO. Their experience helps support newer board members, committee chairs, and emerging leaders as they learn association operations, build professional relationships, and understand the broader responsibilities of representing building officials throughout Washington State.

Through their continued involvement, WABO’s Past Presidents help preserve the association’s history while supporting its future direction. Their leadership strengthens organizational stability, promotes collaboration among jurisdictions, and reinforces WABO’s commitment to effective code administration, professional development, and the protection of public health, safety, and welfare.
