BO 401 – American Governance Course Overview: This course is intended to provide present and future building officials with a detailed overview of the complex governmental organization and legal environment surrounding building safety regulation. Governmental structures and law making at the federal, state and local level are examined as well as public process, public access to information, human resources, legal aspects, and code enforcement activities are considered. Prerequisites: COAP Years 1 - 3, Building Official, Acting Building Official, or Code Officials with a current CBO certification. BO 402 – The Building Official's Department Course Overview: This course examines the intricacies and nuances of effective and efficient department administration and operations. Understanding the organization and its structure, budgeting, employee relations, records management, customer service and technical competency are examined. Professional development programs and policies and procedure recommendations are also discussed. Prerequisites: BO 401 BO 403 – Building Official Course Overview: This course considers the building officials role as a leader in the department, jurisdiction, community, and building safety profession.
